The ability to open CS GO cases and receive skins is one of the main reasons for the game’s popularity. Opening cases is a high-risk, high-reward activity where you can get an item worth thousands of dollars or a case for 5 cents. Today, there are dozens of standard cases where you can find knives and skins for weapons, as well as several souvenir case skins over the maps of the active duty queue and Inferno.
Definition of cases and their classification
Before you open cases CS GO, you need to understand what it is. As you may have guessed, cases are consumable items that can be used to obtain more valuable equipment. Each chest is unique in different aspects: the case’s contents depend on the collection to which it is dedicated, and the items dropped from it differ in quality, patterns, etc.
Weapon crates come in three categories: Prime, Rare, and Discontinued.
- Cases with Prime weapons are available to users who have received Prime status in their CS GO profile. As a rule, these are cases with weapons that were introduced recently; today, Revolution Case, Recoil Case, etc., belong to this category. You need to purchase the Prime Status upgrade in the Steam Market to obtain Prime Status.
- Rare Cases (often confused with Discontinued) are available to all users. These cases were released several years ago or were previously intended only for operation pass owners. As the name suggests, such boxes do not appear often; some players say they receive such gifts no more than once a year.
- Discontinued cases do not drop; they are only available through the Steam Market or trading sites. Although there is no official information, CS GO users state that eSports cases available between 2013 and 2014 are not available today since their primary purpose was to raise capital for significant prize pools. The boxes for Operations Shattered Web, Broken Fang, and Riptide disappeared from circulation after the end of their respective operations. They do not drop as rare items and are considered discontinued.
A guaranteed chance to get a CS GO case is to buy a box. This can be done on the Steam Market, where hundreds of items are available, or use particular sites.
How to open cases CS GO?
If you have a case that you plan to open, you will need one more item – a key specific to each box. You can purchase the key directly from Steam before proceeding to open it. Please note that keys cannot be returned or sold on the Steam Market, so do not purchase them if you do not intend to use them.
Case keys cost a flat amount of $2.49 or the equivalent in the selected currency. We do not recommend buying keys on the Steam Market – they will cost more. A more profitable solution is to buy them in the in-game store.
If you purchase a key from the Steam Market, it is tradeable since it was launched before the update when Valve made all keys non-tradable. You can sell it again on the Steam Market to recoup your costs.
You need to carefully weigh whether it is worth spending money on cases containing many unnecessary items or whether it is easier to buy suitable skins on Steam Market or a third-party site.
